PTF S950 SAMPLER
New
12-bit grit. Eight voices.
- The Machine's Converter: 12 bits at a sample rate of 2.5 times the audio bandwidth, from 7.5 kHz at 3,000 Hz to 48 kHz at 19,200 Hz. Each voice replays through its own filter.
- A Captured Input Stage: REC LEVEL drives an analogue capture of the machine's front end, from clean to saturated, before the converter.
- Eight Voices From MIDI: Record from your track or drop a file on the panel, then play it with keygroups, a velocity switch, filter and amplitude envelopes and an LFO.
- The Whole Front Panel: The 40 x 2 display, the eight mode keys and their pages, the keypad, the CONTROL wheel and a floppy drive that saves .s950 files.
- Mac and Windows: AU and VST3 on macOS, universal for Intel and Apple Silicon. VST3 on Windows, 64-bit.
PTF-S950 follows the machine's own signal path. The input goes through a capture of its analogue front end, then the filter and a 12-bit converter whose sample rate is 2.5 times the AUDIO BANDWIDTH, from 7.5 kHz at the bottom to 48 kHz at the top. Insert it on a drum bus as an effect, or record into its memory and play the sample back from MIDI.
Every knob, key and lamp works
The front panel is the whole interface. POWER and DISPLAY CONTRAST sit at the top left, the 40 x 2 display with its eight mode keys and page table in the centre, and the keypad and the CONTROL wheel to the right, above REC LEVEL, MONITOR and OUTPUT. Click the floppy drive to insert a disk and save the whole memory to a .s950 file, or load one into any project. Your DAW session keeps the samples in memory as well.

An input stage, a filter and twelve bits
REC LEVEL drives a capture of the machine's analogue input, from -24 to +24 dB. Quiet signals stay clean, and towards 0 dBFS the front end saturates the way the machine does. AUDIO BANDWIDTH sets where the filter rolls off the top, from 3,000 to 19,200 Hz, and the sample rate follows at 2.5 times. MONITOR adds the live input stage under what the machine plays, as the hardware mixes them at its output, and OUTPUT sets the level from -24 to +24 dB. In your DAW, Bit Depth runs from 6 to 16 bits, with 12 as the machine.

Eight modes, eight voices
Press REC to name a sample, set its bandwidth, recording time, pitch and trigger, and record from your track. Or drop an audio file on the panel: It is sampled the way the machine would sample it, at the current bandwidth, through the filter and the converter, under its own name. EDIT SAMPLE trims, loops, reverses, crossfades and stretches up to 999 %, and EDIT PROGRAM sets keygroups, soft and hard samples with a velocity switch, filter and amplitude envelopes and an LFO. Eight voices answer MIDI notes, velocity, pitch bend, the mod wheel, aftertouch and the sustain pedal.

The memory holds 474,720 sample points, as the hardware did, from 9.9 seconds at 48 kHz to 63.3 seconds at 7.5 kHz. A lower bandwidth trades fidelity for time, and a sample played below the pitch it was recorded at runs slower and darker, the classic sampler sound for drums and vocal chops. Once the plug-in is activated, drag a sample from the display and it is saved as a WAV file, the way the machine plays it.
