PTF SP-12 SAMPLER
7 days free
Raw, Crunchy, Unmistakable 12-Bit Magic.
- Original Firmware & Sound: Built on real Z-80 code with 24 factory sounds extracted straight from the original EPROMs.
- Neural-Modelled Analog Stage: Captures the exact dynamic response, warmth, and crunch of the iconic 12-bit D/A converters.
- Mac & Windows Compatible: Full cross-platform support for macOS and Windows systems.
- DAW Ready: Seamless integration as VST3, Audio Unit (AU), or Standalone.
Not a sample pack and not an impression. PTF-SP12 runs the instrument's own operating system on an emulated Z-80: it scans the real key matrix, lights the real lamps and draws its own display. Every sound goes through a twelve-bit converter at 27,500 samples a second and an output stage captured from the hardware as a neural network. Drop a sound on a pad and it comes back the way it would have in 1985.
It runs the machine's own code
PTF-SP12 does not imitate the SP-12's behaviour. It runs the instrument's operating system, version 2.6 of 1987, on an emulated Z-80. Every button you press closes a contact in the real key matrix, and the firmware decides what it means. The display is the machine's own, drawn from its own character memory, and the lamps are the bits of its own lamp word. Nothing on the panel behaves the way it does because the plug-in says so. It behaves that way because the SP-12 does.

Captured, not modelled
Everything you play goes through the machine's converter at 27,500 samples a second, the rate the hardware ran at. That is where the weight comes from: a short word, a slow clock, and a top end that rolls off into grit. After it sits the analogue output stage, captured from the real unit and run as a neural network, so the saturation and the small asymmetries are the machine's own. Drop a clean sound on a pad and it comes back heavier, darker and sitting in the mix the way 1985 records do.

| The real machine's operating system, version 2.6 of 1987, running on an emulated Z-80: the real key matrix, the real lamps, the real display | |
| Twelve-bit converter at 27,500 samples a second | |
| Output stage captured from the hardware and run as a neural network, two captures: SP-12 and SP-1200 | |
| Eight velocity pads, four banks | 24 factory sounds and eight user pads |
| Drop any WAV or AIFF on a pad | it is summed to mono, resampled to 27,500 and cut to twelve bits on the way in |
| Sample from the input through the machine's own Sample module: threshold, arm, force, level | |
| The sequencer | segments and songs, swing, auto-correct, step programming, tempo and mix changes, metronome |
| Loads and saves Commodore 1541 .d64 disk images, so real machine disks load straight in and anything you save plays on the hardware | |
| Eight converter controls on the faders, all automatable: TUNE, BITS, FILTER, NOISE, HP FILTER, | |
| RESONANCE, DECAY, SPREAD | |
| Per pad | tune, decay, level and output channel; two pads on one channel choke each other, as on the machine |
| Plays from MIDI from note 36 upward with velocity; locks to the host's tempo and transport over MIDI sync | |
| SAMPLE STOP key | press once to stop the last sample played, hold a second to stop them all |
| VST3 and Audio Unit on macOS, VST3 on Windows, Standalone on both | |
| Universal | Intel and Apple silicon, macOS 10.11 or later; Windows 10 or later, 64-bit |
| One serial key for two computers, works offline once activated, seven-day trial |
