AUDIOMAX 444 TUBE COMPRESSOR
New
Level, perfected in 1965.
- Smart Platform Levelling: Holds gain steady within a 10 dB window so natural performance dynamics stay intact without pumping.
- Gated Gain Stabilizer & RTZ: Prevents noise floor creep during pauses and automatically returns gain to zero after 10 seconds of silence.
- Extended Logic & Tone Controls: Features control over transformer saturation (IRON), diode character (LOSSER), circuit age, hum, sidechain high-pass filtering, and parallel MIX.
- Analog Realism: Class-A stage modeling, optional neural capturing, up to 8x oversampling, and photorealistic 3D UI modeling.
- The PTF AUDIOMAX 444 comes with 21 factory presets organized into seven distinct categories (such as Voice, Drums, Bus & Master, and Character). You can also save and load an unlimited number of your own custom presets.
A grey steel front, one large meter, a handful of controls and a cover that hid the rest. Behind it, nuvistor tubes, matched diodes and heavy transformers worked so quietly that listeners never knew it was there. Decades later, studios found what broadcasters always knew. Put it across a drum bus or a full mix, and everything simply sits together.
The 1965 levelling amplifier, rebuilt from its circuit.
PTF AUDIOMAX 444 brings back the broadcast leveller of 1965. It holds a mix steady without squashing it, adds the warmth of its diodes and transformers as it works, and wears the machine’s own face, rendered in 3D down to the last screw.

A leveller, not a compressor
Most emulations treat this machine as a compressor, which is why they never sound like one. The 444 is a levelling amplifier. Inside a ten-decibel window it holds its gain still and lets the programme breathe, with every accent and swell left untouched. Above that window it rides the level slowly and evenly, the way broadcast engineers trusted it to. When the programme stops, the gated gain stabilizer keeps the gain from racing back up, so pauses never fill with rising noise. After a long pause the machine settles back to its resting point on its own.

Built from the service manual & circuitry
PTF AUDIOMAX 444 is built from the machine’s own service manual: its schematics, its alignment procedures and its printed transfer curves. Each stage is modelled on its own, from the matched diodes of the gain cell to the input and output transformers. The diodes add colour only as the gain comes down and leave the signal clean at unity, exactly as the circuit does. The transformers saturate in the low end and keep the top clean. The model is tested against every figure the 1965 manual prints.
